Mark Rae (Rae & Christian) - Mercury Rising DJ Mix

How do, gentle folk...

Back again for another instalment to the mix blog. It's been quite a while since a peep has been heard from me, as real life has been taking priority over the past few months. But good things have come out of this hiatus... Firstly the headliner news that I'm soon to become a dad! along with winning a few awards with the Twisted Burger Company, a few cheeky sets playing out alongside DJ Moneyshot and Dr Syntax and the start of my new monthly night 'My Kinda Scum' at Harrisons 1854 bar here in Sheffield. So you could forgive me for being a little shy...

Anyways,

On with the meat to this audio sandwich.

Another duo that have been off radar for a while, Grand Central Records creators Rae & Christian are back with a new studio album. And I'm pleased to say it's doing good things down here in the lab. You can get a taste of it over HERE before you decide to splash out on the tasty limited 180g double vinyl set for crimble. Like I did. For the missus, like...

So alongside that stream of the forthcoming Rae & Christian album 'Mercury Rising', Here is a  DJ mix by Mark Rae featuring tracks from The Isley Brothers, The Bee Gees and Major Lazer. Enjoy...

01. The Kleptones/Major Lazer - Get Free Parking
02. The Bee Gees - Love You Inside And Out [Gazeebo Edit]
03. The Delegation - Oh Honey [Mercury Rising Edit]
04. Ta Ku - Higher [Flume Remix]
05. Cat Stevens - Was Dog A Doughnut [Pilooski Edit]
06. 6th Borough Project - Mclovin
07. Bobby Womack - The Things We Do (When Were Lonely) [Mercury Rising Edit]
08. Isley Brothers - Between The Sheets [The Revenge Edit]
09. Pieces Of A Dream - Mt Airy’s Groove [Mercury Rising Edit]
10. Rae & Christian - A2B [Mercury Rising Edit]
11. Rae & Christian - Bacalau 2013
12. Bookashade - In White Rooms
13. Rae & Christian - 1975
14. Emeli Sande - Heaven [Rae & Christian Unreleased Remix]

Until next time, have an enormous one.

Arnivore! - Cool Beans, Rhymes & Life, DJ Derek - Live at Neuropol29/04/08

Glaston-berried

Now then,

It's me, Rogue Fader. Remember...? Your sporadic mix blogger. Yes I realise it's has been almost 2 months since my last post. That is pretty slack... but shiz has been going down you see. Weddings, work, Glasto, all takes it's toll on the mind and the body. Speaking of Glastonbury, and what a week that was. In the 13 or so years I've been going I can't say I remember a better one (Although, tbh, I can't remember much of the others anyway - as my old man says 'If you can remember it, you weren't really there') Was great to catch fellow Sheffield jock and all round sound lad Arnivore! on the Saturday night at Pluto's Bazaar in Shangri-La. A belter of a set, for sure. And followed by Scour Supremo that is Spinforth, shiz was breaking loose that night, I can tell you!

Cool Beans
Spin-forth'n

So am glad to say I'm over the electro brain-shocks of the last few weeks and back with another Friday selector of ear fuel to get you through your day. And first up is the for-mentioned Cool Beans creator Arnivore!. It's a tasty little 30 mins of pure party vibes skilfully blended together with some serious toe-tappage guaranteed for the listener. And if you dig, check out his Soundcloud more.

But that's not all. That's not enough to get you to lunch time. So ahead of his last ever gig in Sheffield tonight, I've got a mix by Bristol's oldest DJ - Reggae veteran DJ Derek. I've never had the chance to see him live so was elated to find out he's playing at my workplace after my shift tonight. Here is a live set from back in 2008 at Neuropol. You can also check Arnivore's interview with this legend here.

Until next time...

Enjoy.

Mr Thing - live at Thirsty Ear 03/09/11, DJ Food - Solid Steel 03/05/13, BobaFatt - Solid Steel 03/05/13

It's Saturday,

it's May the 4th,

it's Star Wars Day.

So despite having to go to work in a couple of hours, I'm happy as Salacious Crumb about the prospect of catching Mr Thing at The Harley tonight for Thirsty Ear's 8th birthday. Been really looking forward to this one, always a fave on the blog; the founding member of the Scratch Perverts is sure to tear up the place with his mad turntable skills and eclectic, dusty create digging ability. And Mister Hope has produced an ace poster to promote the night, too.

Check out what it sounded like last time Mr Thing hit the decks at Thirsty Ear...

But that's not all. As it's Star Wars day and all, it's also 'Free Comic Book Day'. So check out the excellent Solid Steel this week - DJ Food spins through a collection of super hero themed tracks from the likes of MF Doom, Elton John, Prince and the Gravediggaz. Well worth a peep...

'til next time, stay cool, nerds.

[edit]

Whilst your over at Solid Steel - it'd be rude not to check out the other hour mix from BobaFatt - his nod to the artists from this years Soudwave festival in Croatia.

Andy Peek - Record Store Day Review

Good Morning sports fans,

and welcome to another Monday morning...

Fresh off the back of another successful weekend, with 420 day on Saturday along with my housemates 30th, Record Store Day and the first BBQ of the season - a rad time was had by all. On top of that throw in a fresh new mixtape from me (more on that soon) and getting offered a new job, one could say it was a weekend to remember. Maybe that lucky bus ticket no.21 in my wallet is working it's magic...

And so on to the business end of the blog, and today I've got another little number from Manchester's Andy Peek (C'mon Feet, Go Dumb!, Surround Yo' Sound Show). And This month he's done a Record Store Day Review spanning Soul, Disco, Funk & Rock. It's got a bit of Bowie, Dr John, Lee 'Scratch' Perry & The Orb as well as exclusives from Grizzly Bear and Sly and the Family Stone. More podcast than mixtape this one but hey-ho, I write the rules, so I can break them.

Until next time...

Here is the first 90 mins of Boca 45's gig at The Harley for last Saturday's Thirsty Ear Jukebox 45s night. It's a tasty selection of funky 7"s to get those toes tapping this Tuesday morn. Slick flyer art by Mister Hope, too.

Jaguar Skills - Various/Rogue Fader -Spring Forward

Hello there, and firstly, a pinch and a punch. White rabbits, no returnsies. Welcome to another mix post from yours truly. And it's a bumper selection today, no less than 4 mixes for you!. All because Jaguar Skills and his Amazing Friends are in Leeds this weekend and through a bit of last minute line up change around I've managed to bag myself a warm up set on the night, a set I'm very much looking forward to. So it seems only right to rack up a Jag Skills mix for todays selection, but which one to go for? There's literally* hundreds of them out there, so here are a few that should get you cheesing your face off in no time...

But wait, even these three mixes don't actually add up to an hour. So as a little extra today, and as it is meteorogically the first day of Spring, I give you my latest mix - Spring Forward. A small collection of some of the tunes I've been in to recently (as you can see I was quite excited about photographing Pharcyde the other week!)

*haven't actually counted
